Sales Tax Break for Artwork, Other Cultural Incentives Soughtfor Greenway FOLC has applied to have the Lafitte Greenway and areas surrounding it designated as a "Cultural Product District" by the
Louisiana Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism ("CRT"). Qualified ventures in such a district can receive tax credits for affordable housing development; historic property
renovation; and tax exemptions for sales of original works of art. This is part of FOLC's effort to go beyond betting the greenway built to encouraging nearby development to be consistent with the pedestrian-friendly and sustainability values the greenway represents.
Last Thursday, the New Orleans City Council listed the Lafitte Greenway as one of 13 applications it approved to be forwarded to CRT for consideration. CRT's decisions on cultural product district applications statewide are is due by October 1st.
