Daniel Samuels

Daniel Samuels

Daniel Samuels is a practicing architect with a background in historic preservation and adaptive reuse, and a Master's degree in Urban Planning. He is a resident of Faubourg St. John and a Board member of the Faubourg St. John Neighborhood Association. Daniel first became aware of the history of the Lafitte Corridor and its potential as a public open space amenity while researching the history of North Claiborne Avenue and the construction of Interstate 10 through downtown New Orleans.

Bart Everson of Mid City commutes by bike to his job as a multimedia artist at Xavier University 's Center for the Advancement of Teaching. In the spring of 2005 and 2006, Bart organized hikes of the Lafitte corridor which spawned the organization of Friends of Lafitte Corridor. Bart is a former board member of both the Urban Conservancy and the Mid City Neighborhood Organization. Bart and his wife Christy Paxson
recently celebrated the birth of their first, last and only child.

Cheryl Frankfater

Cheryl Frankfater is a research scientist at the U.S. Department of Agriculture with a background is in the study of ecology and drug discovery from plants and other natural sources. Cheryl has taught a classes in "Public Policy of Conservation Biology" which emphasized garnering stakeholder support and forging alliances between different groups to help put plans into action. Cheryl worked in 2007 on FOLC's successful grant application for a Kodak American Greenway Award.

Linda Landesberg, is a strategic planner and project management consultant for the cruise line industry. She moved from the French Quarter to Faubourg St. John in 1984, looking for proximity to green space suitable for biking, recreation and walking pets.

Edgar Chase
Board Term: Jan 2008 - Jan 2010

Having in the past served as Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Port of New Orleans, the Bureau of Governmental Research, the Preservation Resource Center and having a love for the performing arts, culture, recreation, and tourism Edgar feels a strong affinity to the City of New Orleans and particularly to the Lafitte Corridor. His family owns Dooky Chase Restaurant, a cultural landmark in Treme, and his father's Big Jazz Band musicians mostly lived in or grew up around the Lafitte Housing Development. Today, Edgar and his wife, Alva, have three sons and four grandchildren. The Chase family would love to live to see their grandkids ride bikes in safety from their homes on Orleans Avenue all the way to Lake Pontchartrain along the Lafitte Greenway. Health and environmental safety is one of the most important aspects of "Great Cities." The Chases believe New Orleans is poised for greatness. As Vice President of Facilities Planning at Dillard University, Mr. Chase attempts everyday to make a "more livable and sustainable New Orleans and Dillard University" the watchwords of his commitment to a better New Orleans.

Lake Douglas

Lake Douglas is an Associate Professor of Landscape Architecture at LSU/BR and has lived on Bayou St. John since 1987. He was involved in forming FOLC and has served as a FOLC Board Member since 2006. Lake is a writer and he participated in assembling the recently released Master Plan for the Lafitte Greenway. He was recently named to the Lafitte Greenway Task Force. Lake's career has also included being an arts consultant and cultural planner, as well as a stint as manager of Union Passenger Terminal.

 

 

Skip Henderson

Board Term: Jan 2008 - Jan 2010

Skip Henderson has a degree in Urban Planning from Rutgers University and has successfully raised over $2 million in Mississippi and Louisiana for various non-profit projects through grant-writing. Skip has also worked as a Development Specialist for (HANO) Lafitte Resident Council (1997-1999) and now serves as Coordinator of a mobile employment resource center for JOB-1 New Orleans.


Janet Ward Pease

Janet Ward Pease is a software and website developer employed by DynMcDermott Petroleum Operations. Janet has a degree in art education and an MBA from the University of New Orleans. She has served on FOLC's Board since 2007 and is the FOLC Webmaster. She is also currently acting as the administrator for the pilot project (in progress) to construct the portion of the Lafitte Greenway between Jefferson Davis Parkway and Carrollton Avenue.

 

Leonetta Terrell

Leonetta Terrell is a resident of Treme and a social worker. She is a member of St. Peter Claver Church's Health Cabinet and also a member of the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority. Leonetta serves as Chair of FOLC's Outreach Committee.

Amita  Toprani
Amita Toprani
Board Term: Jan 2008 - Jan 2010

Amita Toprani is a board-certified physician in both Internal and Preventive Medicine. She currently works for the Louisiana Public Health Institute where she serves as the Director of Health Promotion and Disease Prevention. HPDP seeks to improve the health of Louisianans by influencing the primary determinants of health including healthy nutrition and physical activity. Amita sees the Lafitte Greenway as a means to promoting an active lifestyle - an essential part of the solution to the high rates of obesity present in our city and state.
