A package of grants recently awarded by the Greater New Orleans Foundation, aimed at facilitating implementation of projects that emerged from post-K planning, includes $20,000 to Urban Conservancy for the Lafitte Greenway. The amount includes $14,750 for construction of the Jefferson Davis to Carrollton segment of the Greenway and $5,250 for Urban Conservancy to highlight local businesses along the Greenway and to build awareness of the Greenway's promised economic impact.
Urban Conservancy's grant application to GNOF was drafted by
Dr. Jacob Wagner of the University of Missouri Kansas City, with local input from
Dana Eness of Stay Local/the Urban Conservancy. This is the same team that brought FOLC a grant from Bikes Belong which made development of the Lafitte Greenway Master Plan document possible. FOLC once again wants to express gratitude for their efforts on behalf of the Greenway.
The $14,750 award for Greenway construction
pushed FOLC's fundraising over the required $1 to $4 match necessary to fully secure our $85,000 Governor's Recreational Trail Grant from the State of Louisiana's Dept of Transportation.
